What costs do I need to estimate for my studies?

We are convinced that the tuition fees really should not be considered as costs, but rather as an investment into your future. Still, it is crucial for you to consider the tuition fees, the living costs and the various means of financing them in advance.

The monthly tuition fees currently amount to € 690. You can either pay them monthly or annually. In addition, all students are required to pay a contribution of currently € 67.70 per semester (status as of 2019) to the student union (Studentenwerk) Karlsruhe.

Accordingly, the total costs per semester incl. contribution to the student union amount to € 4,207.70. If you graduate from your three-year study program within the regular study period, then, the total costs of your studies amount to € 25,246.20. For living and residing in Karlsruhe you should estimate approx. € 700 per month.

By the way, with your student ID card you are eligible to use the local public transport system from 6 p.m. for free every day.

Please inform yourself about possible scholarships and further sponsorship possibilities in your home country, too!

"When I finished my CBYX-AFS exchange, I thought it would be the end of my intercultural experience. I was wrong. Studying at the Karls with the AFS Scholarship has been like a second exchange filled with just as many amazing opportunities, forever friends, unforgettable laughs, memories and joys as my first. Apply to the AFS Scholarship today, and begin your next three year exchange again."
