The International Business Program

NEW: OPEN FOR APPLICATIONS FROM WINTER TERM 2018/2019

I imagine that I will have an international career in the future. I want to tap into new markets, develop organizations and assume responsible management functions. I want to understand and analyze economic issues in the international context and to interpret them with a view to their cultural background. Scientific theories, principles and methods will help me to act in appropriately and effectively for my business, but also to act responsibly.

The specialization area in "intercultural management" will allow me to understand the intercultural dimension of entrepreneurial actions in the context of markets and marketing as well as human resources management. I will also explore the ethical foundations of these actions and the specifics of intercultural communication in management. In the "marketing" specialization area, I will develop competencies that enable me to open up new markets and develop and implement target-oriented marketing concepts, taking into account international and intercultural aspects. The specialization area in "responsible business" involves exploring questions related to the sustainable use of resources in different cultural and political contexts.

Specializations in the International Business Program

In this program I can choose one out of three specialization areas and thus assemble my own individual program of studies completely as I wish. As a result, I can pursue the path I want to take for my future career right from the start:

Intercultural Management

Regardless of whether I am spending a weekend in London for a concert, doing a backpacking trip with friends through southern Europe, am on a school exchange in Indonesia or doing three months of voluntary work in Columbia, but also walking into the center of my home city, talking to someone in the schoolyard or perhaps even looking at the contact list of my smartphone – in all these situations, I am confronted with an impressive array of diversity. It makes me realize that globalization has not led to a reduction in the number of cultures, but to the strengthening of cultures and networking. And I realize that I need intercultural competence not only when traveling but also in my everyday life. Therefore, in my International Business program, I would like to learn about the constitution of cultures and their influence on communication processes in companies and organizations.
Nowadays, international management cannot be standardized, but must be shaped in a synergistic manner. I will focus on this productive approach to diversity, learning with concrete examples in modules such as Transcultural Marketing and Intercultural Personnel Development. But diversity is much more than ethnic diversity, and at Karlshochschule I will learn how to draw on this diversity to strengthen my own company or organization and, at the same time, to pursue social sustainability. International Business from a different perspective!

Marketing

In this specialization area, I will learn to understand that marketing is not only about advertising, but also an opportunity to develop long-term and sustainable customer relationships. I want to understand what role consumption plays for people and what methods I can use to explore their preferences and rituals. I want to learn what a good marketing strategy involves, what a target group and positioning are, how to implement marketing measures and how to monitor their success. I find the challenges of digitization particularly exciting for the coordination of marketing channels. During my studies, I will benefit from the many partnerships that Karlshochschule has with companies such as DM, Vodafone or Interbrand and I look forward to guest lectures by Big Data agencies or international hidden champions from the region.

Responsible Business

Against the background of globalization and climate change, I am particularly interested in issues related to ecological and social responsibility. Later, I would like to have the opportunity to work in sustainability management in various industries and areas, ranging from start-ups to international companies and from non-profit organizations to public institutions. To this end, I believe that the intercultural perspective is essential for addressing various ethical questions associated with sustainable development in all areas of society. My expertise will enable me to work successfully with all major players.

"The Karlshochschule is a place in which every student is encouraged to believe in their dreams and ambitions, no matter their cultural or academical background. As a student there, I was given the keys and confidence I needed to realize my dream of traveling the world while succeeding professionally, by being taught that no dream was too big or too high and constantly being challenged to reconsider my ways of perceiving the world around me, which is what some people would call "Think out of the Box". But in order to think out of the box, you first need to think and fully understand the content of the box itself. Through high-quality course material, case studies, Karls-discussions and team activities, the Karlshochschule allows students from all around the world to gain the critical reasoning abilities that they will later need to succeed in the professional world."
