The CREATIVITY & INNOVATION specialization

I learn to channel Creativity & Innovation to promote transformation!

Often when we think of innovation, we think of creative individuals, like Steve Jobs, who seemingly (re-) invent certain products, services, industries or even a way of life. However, an integral understanding and practice of creativity and innovation goes beyond this individualized approach. In this specialization, you will also explore creativity and innovation as a co-creative process and cultural phenomenon.

In Creativity & Innovation, you will learn to challenge, examine, and design creativity in its complexity to foster innovation. Creativity can be understood as an intangible and fuzzy phenomenon. However, you will learn to deal with its fuzziness to develop creative solutions in spite of it.

To stimulate transformation with Creativity & Innovation, it is important to be able to analyse the drivers and barriers of innovation, how lock-ins, path dependencies and inertia obstruct or slow down innovation and what role interests, institutions and ideas play in change processes. Moreover, it is crucial to be able to assess levels of change and their interrelatedness. Based on this, you will learn to implement holistic transition management strategies.

While innovation often takes place in niches, whether in organizations or in society, its success also heavily depends on socio-economic factors. In this specialization, you will learn to look at innovation from different perspectives: From an entre- or intrapreneurs viewpoint interested in distributing your innovation, from an organizational/managerial point of view interested in applying and fostering innovation and finally from the perspective of a policy maker interested in creating an environment in which creativity and innovation can flourish.

David Chaviano, Management (M.A.)

"The creativity modules are a healthy blend of academic theory and unrestricted thought; it certainly provided one of the most entertaining final semester projects."
