Specialization Globalization, Governance & Trade

Let’s create a just world.

I am learning to create a just and prosperous world for all!

Although globalization has contributed to a considerable rise in living standards and falling poverty over the last half century, it has also led to the exploitation of people and nature. The reality of globalization is therefore perceived differently all over the world. Can globalization be “fixed” so that it can be fair to everyone?

In Globalization, Governance & Trade you will look behind the “curtains” of globalization. You will examine the driving forces of globalization, the forms in which globalization takes shape and critically question how people’s lives are affected by globalization in very different contexts. This specialization looks at globalization not only “from above”, but also “from below”. The local material realities of globalization are just as important as the various flows of people, goods, services, information, practices, artefacts etc. and the global governance structure.

You will learn about the opportunities and challenges of globalization from a social, economic and entrepreneurial perspective. Furthermore, you will be able to assess different critiques of globalization and understand how different inequalities are produced and reproduced by global trade and its problematic “conditions”. You will learn to apply Critical Theory, Critical International Relations Theory and Post- and Decolonial Theory to the global trade regime.

Finally, you will analyze mechanisms, practices, institutions and systems of global governance and their transformative potential. All in all, you will learn to analyze globalization, governance and trade in all their complexity.
