Here, students learn how to manage companies profitably, but also how to take ethical and sustainable issues into account. At the Karls, they can expand their knowledge in the areas of sustainability management, Intercultural, Diverse and Inclusive Management, International Marketing and Logistics in greater depth. The respective profiles result in corresponding global employment opportunities in marketing, human resources management, sustainability management or logistics.

International Business (B.A.)

In the International Business degree program, students acquire comprehensive management skills. They begin with an introduction to management, deepen their knowledge of strategic issues and then learn how to use financial and human resources sensibly and efficiently. Students then learn to monitor the results of companies – and to initiate change processes. At the same time, students learn about the challenges facing international organizations and the global economy.

After completing their studies, students are able to analyze and interpret economic processes in an international context using scientific theories, principles and methods. They can specialize in international marketing, intercultural and diverse teams, international sustainability or logistics. In the advanced course of study, students have the opportunity to specialize in a specific region of the world (e.g. Latin America, Anglo-America, South East Asia, Middle East). You will learn practical skills in numerous projects and an internship, which can also be completed abroad. During your semester abroad, you can specialize at one of our partner universities.

Profiles:

Sustainability Management

This profile is suitable for those for whom a sustainable future is important and who want to take responsibility – but also want to combine a career with personal values. The role that companies play in times of ecological crisis and how they can contribute to transformative change is discussed here. It is about developing business models that are both profitable and sustainable. To answer these questions, students can apply business, economic, psychological and financial approaches to companies and organizations.

Profile-related subjects of the course are the development of sustainable and profitable business models, the transformation of global value chains, sustainable development, responsible consumer psychology, change management and transformation of organizations, international projects.

Specific profile-related fields of application include environmental policy analysis, sustainability management, sustainability reporting (CSR report), supply chain management, change management, general organizational development, environmental research and ecological consulting.

Intercultural, Diverse and Inclusive Management

This profile deals with activities in an international and multicultural context of companies and organizations. Students acquire the skills to deal appropriately with cultural, gender-specific, age-related and disability-related differences both internally (e.g. when working in international teams) and externally (e.g. when dealing with customers, suppliers and partners from different cultures). They develop an understanding of different values, norms, communication styles and behaviors, sensitivity, empathy, flexibility and the ability to adopt perspectives. On this basis, they learn to adapt traditional management approaches to specific cultural contexts, to develop effective communication strategies and to promote cooperation between people and teams with different cultural backgrounds and to develop their potential for innovation.

Profile-related subjects of the course are organizational culture, but also feminist, postcolonial & intersectional perspectives, practical diversity & inclusion management, international personnel management, change management.

Career opportunities include diversity and integration management, international HR and communication management, integration consulting and organizational development.

International Marketing

Marketing is about understanding new markets around the world and thinking about strategies to develop, deliver and communicate products and services. Marketing is much more than just advertising: it is about understanding the customer’s journey from their individual needs to their passion for international products. To develop a global perspective on marketing, you need to understand global value chains (and improve them from an ethical and environmental point of view), get to know different regions of the world and communicate with customers at eye level.

Profile-related subjects of the course are marketing/marketing strategies, intercultural advertising psychology, international law, decolonization of customer relations, development and communication campaigns, change & learning, regional aspects of business and international projects.

Career opportunities include international market research, international marketing, international product, brand, innovation and development project management.

Logistics

In the Logistics profile, students expand and deepen their skills in the fields of analysis, planning, management and optimization of global flows of goods, information and finance as well as complex international logistics networks. After successfully completing the course, they will be able to develop modern supply chain strategies, master logistical challenges on international markets, use digital technologies to increase efficiency and assess global risks.

Profile-related subjects of the course are Innovative and Strategic Supply Chain Management, Changes and Challenges in Global Supply Chains, Logistics Strategies and Management in a Digital Economy, Resilient Supply Chains in a Globalized World.

Career opportunities are available in the management of logistics service industries, in the organization of procurement and shipping, in supply chain management, in the quality management of logistics processes and in the management of logistics projects.
