Margret Mergen was the First Deputy Mayoress of Karlsruhe from 2009 to 2014. Her areas of responsibility included finances, economy, property, city marketing, trade fairs and conferences, as well as public utilities and transport, including harbours. She subsequently became Mayor of the town of Baden-Baden from 2014 to 2022.

Previously she had been employed in a range of local public administration positions, including City Treasurer in Karlsruhe and First Mayoress of Heilbronn.

She is a member of the Finance Committee of the Baden-Württemberg State Parliament and the Federal and State Board of the Local Administration Union (KPV).

Margret Mergen is a geography graduate and also completed studies at the Baden-Württemberg Management Academy.
