Structure and Content

The course provides knowledge in the main areas of applied computer science, combined with insights into theoretical and mathematical principles, a technical focus and the opportunity to specialize within a profile area (medical informatics, nursing informatics, artificial intelligence). Graduates are qualified to develop and apply information technology solutions, particularly in the software sector. The course also sets itself apart from similar programs at other universities by thinking outside the box and providing fundamental insights into the management of technologies, the connection between technology and society as well as soft skills relevant to the profession (presentation techniques, teamwork, time and self-management).

After graduating, you will be able to develop practical software solutions, design IT systems and systematically analyze and solve complex technical problems. You will have in-depth knowledge of programming, databases, data structures, networks and current application areas such as artificial intelligence, medical informatics or nursing informatics.

The main subjects of the course are the fundamentals of theoretical and technical computer science, higher mathematics, networks and computer architectures, software development, object-oriented programming, data banks, data analysis, distributed systems, AI, IT security and project management.

Degree: Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.)

Profiles

The Medical Informatics profile focuses on the analysis, processing and interpretation of medical data as well as the development and evaluation of IT systems in the healthcare sector. This includes, for example, hospital information systems, electronic health records, telemedicine applications and decision support systems. The curriculum is supplemented by the basics of medicine as well as insights into the healthcare system in order to promote interdisciplinary cooperation with medical professionals. After an introductory module, there is a practice-oriented project. Upon successful completion, students are qualified to actively shape the digital transformation in the healthcare sector at the interface between IT and medicine.

Profile-related subjects of the course are the introduction to healthcare systems, an introduction to medicine, an introduction to medical informatics, a medical informatics project and validation procedures.

Career opportunities exist in hospital IT, but also in the development of medical software and telemedicine platforms, in data analysis in clinical studies or in the development of interfaces.

The Nursing Informatics profile focuses on combining information technology knowledge with nursing science and medical content. Students acquire comprehensive skills in developing, implementing and evaluating innovative digital solutions for nursing practice and the healthcare system. They qualify for the digitalization of nursing processes, the digitalized analysis and processing of health-related data and the design of user-friendly information systems for nursing staff.

Profile-related subjects of the course include an introduction to healthcare systems, an introduction to medicine, an introduction to nursing informatics, a nursing informatics project and validation procedures.

Career opportunities exist in digital care planning, in care home information systems, in mobile care solutions, in quality management or in training and support.

In the Artificial Intelligence profile, students acquire in-depth knowledge of programming, algorithms, data processing and modern AI methods. The focus is on machine learning, deep learning, computer vision and natural language processing. The practical teaching combines theory with concrete applications in laboratory projects and practical semesters. Students work with the latest tools and learn to develop intelligent systems independently. Thanks to an interdisciplinary insight into ethical issues, students are able to implement AI solutions responsibly in a wide range of industries.

Profile-related subjects of the course include the basics of machine learning, neural networks, artificial intelligence algorithms, an AI project and ethical issues.

Career opportunities exist in the development of autonomous systems, in the development of machine learning, text and language processing, but also in the field of business intelligence and analytics.
