Karlshochschule International University offers three specialized pathway programs that specifically prepare prospective international students for a bachelor’s degree program in Germany. The programs are offered at the Karlsruhe, Chemnitz, and Potsdam campuses and combine academic, language and methodological qualifications with cultural orientation.
The pathways bridge the gap between a foreign school leaving certificate and the requirements for entry into an undergraduate program in Germany. They are aimed at applicants whose school leaving certificate in their home country qualifies them for university study but is not directly recognized as a university entrance qualification in Germany.
The programs offer structured preparation for university studies with academic modules, language instruction, cultural introduction, and individualized support.
Structure and Process
All pathway programs begin annually in November and prepare participants through preparatory studies for the start of a bachelor’s program the following September. The program provides:
- Subject-specific knowledge related to the intended degree program
- Language skills (German or English)
- Academic methods and learning strategies to develop academic readiness
- Personal development through “Future Capabilities”
There is the option of taking an individual entrance examination as early as the end of October. Passing the examination allows direct entry into the regular bachelor’s program. Failure to pass the examination automatically transfers students to the regular two-semester pathway program. A retake exam takes place in June. Upon successful completion, students can begin their studies in the following winter semester.
