Karlshochschule International University proudly welcomes Professor Dr.-Ing. Sasanka Potluri as the new Professor of General Computer Science and Medical Informatics and Head of the Computer Science (B.Sc.) program, which will be launched through the university’s new Chemnitz branch.
With more than a decade of international experience in artificial intelligence, medical informatics, and intelligent systems, Prof. Potluri brings both academic excellence and practical innovation to Karlshochschule’s expanding portfolio in STEM domain. His career has bridged the gap between applied research and real-world impact — from leading the BMBF (BMFTR)-funded KI-LoV research group on AI-based healthcare logistics at Jena University Hospital to developing Machine Learning systems for Industrial Cybersecurity during his doctoral research at the Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg.
Computer Science, done differently
The Computer Science (B.Sc.) program at Karlshochschule (see more at karlshochschule.de/computer-science) stands out through its interdisciplinary, hands-on, and ethical approach to current era’s digital trends. Students don’t just learn to code — they learn to think critically about technology’s role in society, to apply AI responsibly, and to collaborate across disciplines such as management, psychology, and healthcare.
“We want our students to graduate not only as skilled programmers but as digital citizens — able to use AI and data responsibly, creatively, and with a sense of purpose,” says Potluri.
Under Professor Potluri’s leadership, the new programme will focus on AI-driven applications in medicine, industry, and digital transformation, offering close connections to regional research partners and technology companies. Courses such as Medical Informatics, Machine Learning, Neural Networks and Deep Learning, IT Security, and Distributed Systems will prepare students to become the next generation of innovators in both academia and industry.
Bridging Research, Teaching, and Society
Prof. Potluri’s teaching philosophy emphasizes active, project-based learning, encouraging students to engage with real-world problems and develop data-driven solutions. His research continues to explore Healthcare IT, wearable technologies, and explainable AI — fostering collaboration between computer science, healthcare, and engineering.
“Informatics today is about shaping a responsible digital future,” says Prof. Potluri. “At Karlshochschule, we aim to connect artificial intelligence, data science, and human-centered design to tackle real challenges in healthcare, sustainability, and society.”
Karlshochschule congratulates Prof. Dr.-Ing. Sasanka Potluri on his new appointment and looks forward to the enrichment of teaching, research and transfer activities through computer science at the university.
