Stefan practises law for a living and teaches it on the side, which is the right way round. He is a lawyer at Nonnenmacher Rechtsanwälte in Karlsruhe, and has taught at Karlshochschule since March 2008 — long enough that a good number of Karls alumni first encountered the legal reality of doing business in his classroom.
Stefan teaches Business Environment, and the framing matters: law here is not a specialist subject to be delegated to the legal department, but the set of conditions inside which every commercial decision is actually made. His teaching covers international business law and commercial law, alongside insurance law, social and social insurance law, and medical law. Students come away knowing which questions require a lawyer — and, just as usefully, which ones they can think through themselves.
Stefan studied law in Constance and in Clermont-Ferrand, France, and completed his doctorate at the University of Heidelberg. The cross-border training shows in how he teaches international business law: not as a single system, but as the friction between several. For a university whose graduates rarely work in only one jurisdiction, that perspective is worth a great deal.
